The Welsh National was held at the beautiful Redhill Fishery Monmouth on Saturday the 14th September 2019.  It was the best turnout for a national with twenty teams from the south attending from as far away as Pembrokeshire. Sadly those living in North Wales found the distance too much.

The Overall Winner Fishing Molly’s lake was Adam Jones of Sirhowy with a creditable 138lb 5oz an excellent weight considering all the pegs on the complex were full. He caught well on paste, pellet and sweet corn.

The winning team were Sirhowy B with 14 points closely followed by Cadence with 15 points. Third was Cefn Fforest C with 24 points fourth Cefn Fforest A with 26 points a tie at fifth led to it being decided on weight with Newport AA weighing in with 229 lb against Sirhowy C on 226 lbs

All the competitors were using a mixture of baits Corn, Paste, Pellets, and worm with maggots coming into the mix. Micro pellets mixed with ground bait were used to keep fish in the swims.  Twenty Teams equating to 100 anglers took part.

Tim Jones has stood down as manager of Welsh Carp Team for personal reasons and will have no direct further involvement in the management structure of the WFCA.

Wales are the XXII Freshwater Fishing European Champions 2016, match report to follow, but here are 3 fantastic pictures….

As I enter my last year as Team Manager, I am pleased to announce the following selections.

Due to cost and distance (2 night stops required each way for those in a van) to attend the World Camps in Bulgaria, I am forced to elect not to attend the 2016 World Champs at Plovdiv, Bulgaria.

Therefore, our major event in 2016 is the European Championships to be held on the Lage Vaart Canal in Almere, Holland in July (where we fished the World Champs in 2009). The team for the European Champs is:

Lee Edwards

Nigel Evans

Darren Frost

John Harvey

 Ian Leach

Ben Roberts

Consideration will be given to the Home International when further information is available (ie dates, venue etc) but it is hoped that England will run the 2016

Wales will enter a team in the Sensas Challenge on the Gloucester Canal over 12-13 Mar 16.  The team is:

Nigel Evans

Darren Frost

Andy Johnstone

 Ian Leach

Ben Roberts

Andy Johnstone OBE

Team Manager

A strong performance from a development Welsh Team (only 1 anglers from this years world team) over 2 days saw the team finish 8th from the top 28 teams in UK.  We finished well ahead of both Scotland and Ireland.

On a event where dry nets were common we had only 1 dry net from the anglers over 2 days.  Although outside of the top 6 who qualified for a European SENSAS Final in France, we were given an invite as we were so close to the top 6.   Although lack of funds will mean we won’t be able to compete plus the event is between the World Champs and Home Nations.

The anglers and points score (low point being best) were:
Tony Beech 7pts
Ian Leach 12
Darren Frost 14
Mikey Williams 14
Richie Tomala 19
Overall a very good result and importantly another very useful Trial for prospective talent !
Top 3 teams were:
SENSAS 28 (team from France)
