YOUTH TEAM WALES
Youth Team Wales have travelled out to Mantova, in Verona to fish the 2010 U22's World Championships. The venue being the Fissaro Canal Tartaro. The canal is a wide, some 70 metres in places and deep, averaging some 12 foot. The team have visited the water, of today and feel quietly confident.

Andrew Mann (Captain).
First selected to fish for Wales in Belgium 2008, also selected for Portugal in 2009 and Italy 2010. Andrew has also fished the Celtic Cup in Bron Eifion in Criccieth in 2008, won his section and was 5th placed overall. Andrew was selected after winning the southern trial in Cwm Celyn. Andrew is the current Welsh National Champion (Senior) at the age of 19.
Matthew Powell.
First selected to fish for Wales in Portugal in 2006, also selected for Belgium in 2008, Portugal 2009 where he was returned 8th placed and achieved Elite Cymru Status. Also selected, by trial after winning the Northern trial at Llyn Y Gors. Matthew has also been selected for the Celtic Cup for the past four years and has won his section and achieved a best result of second overall, at Bron Eifion in 2008. Matthew represents Buckley AA.
Jonathan Cooper.
Newly called up to Youth Team Wales after qualifying at the Southern Trial, In Cwm Celyn, representing Cwm Celyn AC. Jonathan has also been selected for the Celtic Cup 2010, in Criccieth.
James Clay-Evans.
Newly called up to Youth Team Wales after qualifying at the Northern Trial, in Llyn Y Gors, representing Holyhead AC.. Jonathan has also been selected for the Celtic Cup 2010, in Criccieth.
MATCH REPORT
The week progresses well, however, on the day of the first match, Saturday the weather had became quite gusty and there was a lot of chop on the water...All of the lads caught. Sadly weighing in, in the bottom of their sections... Matthew Powell was best performer on the day returned 5th section. Jonathan Cooper and Andrew Mann were both 9th place, with James Clay-Evans 10th placed. Sunday and the tactics were changed, with all of the lads asked to ball in heavily, the wind had abated and it was thought that the second day would become a big fish match. Saturdays result didn’t put James off his stride as he fished, as requested at 8 metres for the whole of the match and took a wells catfish, carasio and small carp to put in a better performance in 4th place. Andrew Mann was also 4th on the day with Jonathan Cooper 7th and Matthew Powell 8th placed.
The event closed with Wales joint 17th after the first day and 10th placed on the second... The overall score saw Wales returned 15th overall from (19) Nations.
Individually, Andrew Mann was 43rd (13 points), Matthew Powell was 46th (13 points), James Clay-Evans was 51st (14 points)and Jonathan Cooper was 53rd (16 points)
